High Security Shredders
SCEC Endorsed Class A & Class B Government Approved
Class A and Class B shredding is a measure of physical information security using certified document shredders that have passed testing, satisfying the testing guidelines for the secure destruction of classified paper based material.
High security Class A and Class B office paper shredders are often referred to as “SCEC Endorsed”shredders. These shredders are required by most Australian Federal Government Departments and its Agencies, Department of Defence and Contractors to the Australian Government for the secure destruction of classified paper based material.
Class A or Class B?
Class A paper shredders are required for the destruction of material classified at Secret and above including top secret.
Class B paper shredders are for the secure destruction of material classified at Protected / Confidential.
Differences that define Class A and Class B paper shredders are determined by the cross cut shredded paper particle size and testing guidlines that determine whether or not testing of these document shredders have passed or failed testing.
Class A paper shredders must reduce paper to particles sizes of 1mm x 20mm or less.
Class B paper shredders must reduce paper to particles of 2.3mm x 25mm or less.
It is also important to know that not all shredders that can shred to the above dimensions are classed as Class A or Class B shredders. Class A and Class B shredders have also undergone extensive testing by ASIO T4 protective security or authorised test houses and have to pass the relevant “Class A & B” testing against Protective Security prescribed test procedures as determined by ASIO T4. This ensures that all products have passed the relevant testing before being approved for Class A or Class B shredding requirements.
Paper shredders that are listed on the Security Equipment Catalogue “SEC” or have passed testing with valid test reports to substantiate are approved for Class A or Class B shredding requirements.
The Security Equipment Catalogue “SEC” will eventually be withdrawn and replaced by the Security Equipment Evaluated Products List “SEEPL” by 2014. Class A and Class B shredders will not be included in the “SEEPL”.

Changes to SCEC Endorsed Shredders
Our paper shredders meet the Government Class A or Class B requirements.
The SCEC no longer undertakes the evaluation of Class A and Class B paper shredders. In lieu of SCEC evaluation, ASIO has released a Security Equipment Guide which sets out the requirements for Class A and Class B paper shredders used for the destruction of paper based security classified material. This guide may be used by government departments when selecting Class A and Class B paper shredders. The guide and the associated test procedure may also be used for the independent testing and evaluation of Class A and Class B paper shredders.
Our shredders have been independently tested by a NATA test house and are found to meet all of the requirements set out in the ASIO Security Equipment Guide #1 – Class A and Class B Paper Shredders, and are suitable for the destruction of paper based security classified material.
We can of course provide a copy of the report to government agencies as proof that the shredders meet the A Class and B Class shredding requirements.
