Laminator Repairs

Pouch Laminators are mainly supplied in A4 and A3 sizes with manufacturers catering to almost every budget. The main objectives of laminating a paper document are to enhance the appearance and improve durability of the laminated sheet.

These useful machines cater for the needs of the home user to the needs of higher demand use in commercial office settings. Mass volume high speed laminating applications are usually required by the print for profit sector (copy shops and printers) who require the highest level of reliability to minimise downtime.

These useful business machines are commonly used by education & training sectors, large school systems, universities, corporate offices and print shops.

Sometimes overlooked are the best use practices when using a laminator, which can cause unnecessary malfunction and in some cases complete breakdown. The most common fault when a pouch laminator breaks down is a jammed pouch which in some cases wraps around, adhering to the pressure rollers.

The main causes of laminators jamming are mainly due to user error which include:

  1. Feeding the unsealed end of the pouch in first, which will highly likely cause a wrap round.
  2. Insufficient content in the pouch, its recommended at least 96% of the pouch contains content.
  3. Leading edge feeding in contains insufficient content.

Properly used, pouch laminators usually provide reliable operation and if the above causes of malfunction are avoided while laminating documents, using the machine should be mostly trouble free.

When placing a service call with a repairer for your laminator, it makes sense to first consider the commerciality of engaging a repairer. Sometimes the service call cost plus additional labour and parts required can add to a significant amount. In comparison, entire replacement may be a preferable choice plus the new machine guarantee included.

Laminator Breakdown Guide

Lower Cost Pouch Laminators are often impossible to repair and can be very time consuming to dismantle without breaking something, due to sealed assemblies preventing access to the rollers to remove the jammed film and clean. As low cost pouch laminating machines often use sealed assemblies, if the jammed film cannot be extracted without dismantling, typically they are designed to be thrown away with no option other than to replace.

Professional Pouch Laminators are usually faster to repair and more easily dismantled to access to the pressure rollers for cleaning and removal of the jammed film. These machines are far more likely to be repaired in the event of a film jam / wrap around.
